ASICS

ASICS has revealed its new NIMBUS MIRAI sneaker, a crisp white running sneaker designed to be returned and remade at the end of its performance life.

The ASICS NIMBUS MIRAI, which was showcased last weekend at ASICS’ Festival of Running in Paris, is crafted with a super lightweight polyester, an upper with no overlays, and a special type of ASICS-created glue, all of which means that the shoe can be easily recycled when the time comes.

The shoe also features an FF BLAST PLUS ECO midsole — a more sustainable take on the FF Blast we’ve become accustomed to on other ASICS sneakers — which delivers cloud-like cushioning and is made from approximately 24 percent renewable sources, like leftovers from sugar cane processing.

One of the main trepidations when it comes to sustainable footwear is compromised performance.

However, with ASICS’ NIMBUS MIRAI there isn’t any. In fact, thanks to the shoe’s lightness and its breathability, the sneaker can deliver even higher quality and performance than expected from a non-carbon ASICS shoe.

The ASICS NIMBUS MIRAI, which lands online April 12, is a big step in the right direction for ASICS in the realm of sustainable footwear.

And, as it goes, the NIMBUS MIRAI look clean as hell, too. Which is a bonus.
