Reebok has been with us for a while. During its well over a century of shoemaking, Reebok has consistently worked to merge culture, fashion, and technology in unique ways that actually look good on your feet. Though the initial footwear company, J.W. Foster, has been around since 1895, the Reebok that you know today was not born until 1958. Started by brothers Joe and Jeff Foster, the duo pulled from the Grey Rhebok, a species of African Antelope, for the brand name. In the early years of Reebok, the brand gained notoriety for track spikes footwear. In the 1980s, the sports label took off, creating stylish performance wear for casual athletes and world-renowned competitors as sports blended into culture and lifestyle. Sneakers like the Club C, the Pump, and Alien Stomper were sneakers born out of this era.
Reebok switched gears in the coming decades, expanding its reach into hip hop and culture. It’s hard to forget the hype associated with major collaborative drops with heavyweights like Jay Z and G-Unit in the early ‘00s. Fast forward to now, the sportswear brand still has a knack for collaboration, tapping the likes of Maison Kitsuné, Palace, Kerby Jean-Raymond, Maison Margiela, and Vetements, just to name a handful. If anything, Reebok collaborations keep getting better — consistently competing for top spots at the end of the year.
