Andy Sekris, who you may know better as Gollum aka Smeagol from The Lord of the Rings franchise, is currently reading The Hobbit in its entirety to raise money for charity.

The 56-year-old actor is reading JRR Tolkien's beloved 1937 novel live via his YouTube channel. His retelling of the epic saga (aka Hobbitathon) is expected to last around 12 hours — so if you haven't tuned in yet, there is still plenty of time.

At the time of writing, Sekris has raised over £147,000 (approximately $180,000). Explaining the move via his GoFundMe page, he wrote, "So many of us are struggling in isolation during the lockdown. While times are tough, I want to take you on one of the greatest fantasy adventures ever written, a 12 hour armchair marathon across Middle Earth whilst raising money for two amazing charities which are doing extraordinary work right now to help those most in need in the UK: Best Beginnings and NHS Charities Together."
