Editor’s Notes: Dropping as part of a larger collection called the Modern Tokyo Pack, the two new colorways of the GEL LYTE III tap into the brand's heritage by paying tribute to the city's most iconic intersection, the Shibuya Crossing.

Considered to be one of the busiest – if not the busiest – intersections in the world, the Shibuya Crossing is an iconic Tokyo landmark known even by those who’ve never visited the city. As part of a pack paying tribute to modern-day Tokyo, the intersection was selected as a point of aesthetic inspiration, which comes through in the form of a black-and-white print recalling the tarmac and its contrasting zebra-stripes.

The drop includes one men’s and one women’s colorway, both of which feature the distinct print in varying executions. The men's silhouette features a grey mesh upper with white leather overlays and a black heel, while the women's features a brighter, white-heavy upper finished off with hints of mint green in the middle of the outsole and bordering the stripes.

2020 marks the 30th anniversary of ASICS' popular GEL LYTE III silhouette and the Japanese brand is dropping a series of collaborations and one-off releases throughout the year, including today’s Shibuya Crossing-inspired executions. Stay tuned for more, and in the meantime, you can find out the full story behind the silhouette in our interview with its designer Shigeyuki Mitsui.
