The Belgian DJ Taking G-Star To The Top
Charlotte de Witte has spent years climbing to the top of techno. For her first G-STAR campaign, she is doing it literally.
The Belgian DJ, producer, and KNTXT founder has been named G-STAR’s new Global Brand Ambassador, kicking off a multi-year partnership that will see her become the face of the brand and its renewed womenswear collection.
First up is Own the Arc, a global campaign celebrating the return of G-STAR’s Arc jean. Known for its curved, engineered construction, the denim silhouette wraps around the leg rather than falling straight down it. Naturally, G-STAR took de Witte to Paris’ most famous arc to mark its comeback.
The campaign follows the artist as she climbs from the base of the Arc de Triomphe to its summit. It is a fairly direct metaphor for a career built step by step, set by set, and very often, night after night.
For de Witte, denim is already something of a uniform.
“I’ve always lived in denim,” she says. “It’s functional, effortless and has attitude, which feels very natural to me. G-STAR has that same independent spirit and a strong point of view.”
The partnership also signals a new direction for G-STAR womenswear. The collection still starts with the brand’s industrial approach to denim, but reworks it through a more feminine, fluid, and refined lens. The rawness remains. It has simply learned a few new moves.
It is a natural pairing. De Witte built her career without softening her uncompromising approach to techno, while G-STAR has spent more than three decades cutting, curving, and engineering denim into shapes of its own. Neither is particularly interested in following someone else’s blueprint.
De Witte joins a long list of cultural figures to enter G-STAR’s denim universe, following collaborations with Pharrell Williams, Marc Newson, and Snoop Dogg. Her appointment, however, puts a distinctly female perspective at the centre of the brand’s next chapter.
From the darkest clubs to the top of the Arc de Triomphe, Charlotte de Witte’s rise continues. This time, she is doing it in denim.
G-STAR’s Own the Arc campaign is out globally now.
