Serpenti State of Mind: Bvlgari Has NYC In Its Grips

Evolution is inevitable. True transformation, however, requires more than the mere passage of time and the passive allowance of its effects to register. The determinant? Adaptation, with all the wit and sharp perception requisite in its mastery, decides which species not only survive but thrive in any given ecosystem. It’s a matter of survival instincts, and it’s one whose sheer force can signal ascent or demise.

Highsnobiety, Highsnobiety, Highsnobiety

Well-versed in the art of metamorphosis is Bvlgari’s Serpenti. The snake-derivative icon is sleek, slipping through labels—all except the amorphous few: iconic, timeless, awe-inspiring; it refuses to be relegated to the rigid, and shifts with the times it finds itself in. So when it came time for Serpenti to evolve once more, it took its mastery of transformation to the streets of another ecosystem outside its home in Rome: the Concrete Jungle, transforming New York City into the latest expression of its time-honored heritage.

It started deep on the city's lifeline: the 7. On that latitudinal train that runs through Manhattan’s heart, Serpenti shed a few layers, bestowing the train with scales of its own. In true New York fashion, that naturally manifests in a graffiti-adjacent takeover, wrapping the train’s body in serpentine iconography. Though the trajectory is anything but your standard MTA route. It made its way to brick-lined buildings in the Meatpacking District, street kiosks, and the Oculus, leaving a winding track of scales throughout.

Deep in the belly of the beast—downtown, at the Standard Hotel, that is—Bvlgari reached perhaps the apotheosis of its mission to foster the arts, a mission perhaps as old as the house itself. Celebrating “Serpenti Infinito,” Bvlgari unveiled its newfangled art installation: “auruBOROS — Urban Memory and Collective Dream,” amid the city’s bustling Fashion Week festivities, in which the Maison explores the transformative nature of its time-worn heritage.

The architectural anomaly, created by the Berlin design duo Plastique Fantastique, is the first of Bvlgari’s in the United States, and is by no means a subtle debut; featuring a pneumatic golden structure that coils through the building, “auraBOROS” is a celebration of form and the challenges that alter the course of its trajectory. It embodies the creative compulsions that define artistry itself.

“As a symbol of perpetual transformation and infinite renewal, Serpenti invites us to embrace change as a source of beauty, innovation and inspiration, creating experiences that resonate far beyond the boundaries of time and place,” shared Laura Burdese, CEO of Bvlgari. And all the cosmopolitan glitterati who flock to the city each Fashion Week to witness that beauty and innovation were there in their finest golden scales to witness Bvlgari’s. Amid the dazzling onlookers, Dua Lipa stunned, sporting the Serpenti Helix High Jewelry necklace, a golden choker scintillating with diamonds, centered by none other than a serpent pendant with a Tanzanian spinel dripping from its mouth. Elsewhere, Anne Hathaway’s glow rivaled that of the Serpenti necklace she wore with a statement pendant in the deepest of purples. Lisa, too, illuminated the night with a [Bvlgari to confirm what jewelry piece she’s wearing].

High on up, in BOOM!, or the Boom Boom Room (as it’s known in certain circles), the party charged fast and fierce into the night amid hypnosis-inducing beats, courtesy of Kaytranada, and endlessly flowing champagne. Dua Lipa feverishly danced the night away. Lisa and Hudson Williams posed side by side amid the flashing bulbs of cameras, and, like the skyline that backdropped them, the room glittered with a certain sparkle only afforded by renewal via high-scale glamour.

It was almost as if Serpenti had coiled itself around the beau monde, pulling everyone in tighter to take its final bite. So few things have such a grasp on culture—both high and pop—let alone in one night. But in Serpenti’s grasp, it was a cinch.
