Lamine Yamal Brings His American Eagle Drop Home
American Eagle touched down on Wednesday for its first-ever activation in Spain. Guests were treated to an exclusive 48-hour tour of Barcelona, kicking off in Dreta de l'Eixample where local artists Urees, Otti Hats, Ugo Boulard and Düa Düa hosted free denim customization workshops. Attendees personalized their own AE pieces, then starred in a professional photoshoot inspired by the Lamine Yamal x American Eagle campaign, soundtracked by local guest DJs.
Lamine Yamal was the star of the show here: the event came hot off the back of his World Cup victory and new American Eagle collab collection, inspired by his off-pitch style. The 19-year-old Spain and Barcelona star scored again with the first drop from a five-year partnership with the US denim brand, and this week the brand celebrated on the footballer’s home turf.
Elsewhere in the centre of the city, renowned street artist TV Boy unveiled an unmissable 21m-high mural celebrating Lamine Yamal and the collection. Underground, AE turned a metro carriage into a mobile party, putting the collection on public display to live music. The finale took place at the American Eagle Beach Club on Moll de la Marina, where a surprise rap battle erupted in front of hundreds of guests against a perfect Barcelona sunset.
"It's special that American Eagle brought my collection to life in Barcelona, and to see that people here made the pieces their own" said Lamine Yamal. "Fashion is something I've always enjoyed, and this collection feels true to me and how I like to style myself. To be able to share this with my home city makes it even better."
The 29-piece collection channels Yamal's signature relaxed look, blending streetwear with workwear. An "Ultra Baggy" silhouette runs across jeans, carpenter pants, cargos and khakis, paired with easy button-ups in flannel and striped poplin, denim overshirts, knitted vests and soft sweater-knit tees. Layer on the slightly cropped cardigan or a utility-style jacket. The palette is earthy and neutral, moving through khaki, olive, washed blue and brown, so everything works together and getting dressed is a breeze.
Craig Brommers, American Eagle's chief marketing officer, said, "Lamine represents a new generation of confidence and self-expression, which makes him an incredible partner for American Eagle. By creating a connected journey of denim, music, creativity, and youth culture through Lamine's home city, we're able to connect AE with a whole new generation in Europe, providing unexpected and memorable experiences in their city."
With the Lamine Yamal x American Eagle collection launched and a still-warm World Cup win pocketed, Barcelona's most fashionable footballer ensures that Gen Z won't be getting any more accusations of being work- or party-shy for the foreseeable future.
