Double Tap to Zoom

As we move into the bright, warm days of summer, everything starts to get lighter. The weather, of course, but also our moods and wardrobes. Exchanging blacks and greys for pastel clothing is an annual ritual across the world. It’s the symbolic cleansing after a dark winter, telling yourself and the world that you just turned on summer mode.

One of the great appeals of pastel clothing is that it can provide a colorful lift to your outfits without dominating the look. We’re all for bold colors, but a lot of the time they overtake the more subtle aspects of your carefully curated wardrobe like detailing or proportions. Pastel clothing allows the other aspects of your outfit to breathe which makes it versatile and easy to style with a range of colors.

Now that the sun’s making more regular appearances, we’re wasting no time in pastelizing our seasonal wardrobes. We hit the pastel-laden pages of MATCHESFASHION to round up some of the best pastel clothing for summer.

BY WALID Patchwork Sneakers

Pastels extend to footwear too, by the way. BY WALID just outfitted a pair of luxury sneakers with a signature range of pastel patchworks and the outcome is pretty beautiful. The leather heel tab is the elevated finishing touch.

Marni Contrast Collar Shirt

Marni keeps things toned-down with this short-sleeved button-down which brims with retro style. Embroidered text above the chest pocket is the only detailing on the crisp cotton build and the contrast collar sets the blue torso off.

AMI Ami de Coeur Cardigan

Pastel clothing has a long history with preppy style which, as it happens, is top of our list of style inspirations this year. We’re pairing this cardigan with wide-leg slacks and horsebit loafers for serious Ivy League energy.

Stone Island Logo-Patch Swim Shorts

Stone Island is the unsung hero of the pastel world. The Italian brand's penchant for technical garment-dyeing processes puts it at the forefront of the dusty palette game and this pair of pale swim shorts proves it.

Maison MIHARA YASUHIRO Hank Sneakers

Maison Mihara Yasuhiro’s bold, molded sole units definitely attract attention, so it’s a nice contrast when the upper is so understated. The familiar silhouette features a premium leather upper in pastel blue which works with literally everything.

Martine Rose Tie-Dye T-Shirt

Pastels + tie dye = summer essential.

Jacquemus Grosgrain-Taped Shirt

Jacquemus collections are typified by flashes of workwear utility dispersed amongst the overtly luxurious offerings. Never is it more apparent than with this Grosgrain-Taped Shirt which pits rugged utilitarian detailing against a cute, pastel yellow backdrop.

Wooyoungmi Suit Jacket

Wooyoungmi’s unorthodox take on soft tailoring makes it the perfect label to incorporate into your off-duty wardrobe this summer. This double-breasted jacket features a concealed placket for a cleaner aesthetic and it means that styling it with a simple white T-shirt is all you need for a head-turning look.

Ludovic de Saint Sernin Boxer Shorts

This pair of shorts by Ludovic de Saint Sernin is officially a pair of boxer shorts, but we’re throwing hazard to the wind and sporting these as normal shorts this summer. That silky finish is too good to hide.

TOOGOOD The Driver Trousers

Speaking of TOOGOOD, this pair of pastel pink pants from the British label removes any possibility of looking too preppy with two unmissable pleats wrapping around each leg.

Our Legacy Pillow Tote Bag

If you're on the fence about going all-out pastel this summer, ease yourself in with a few accessories. This padded tote bag from Our Legacy eschews the label's signature grunge style for a sweeter pastel stripe motif.
