YYH SS19 - LOOK 01 - MODEL ALIK TEXEIRA - PHOTO MONICA FEUDI
Yohji Yamamoto / Monica Feudi

Yohji Yamamoto has revealed his vision for Spring/Summer 2019, and it's popping with color, graphic prints and more zips than you could ever realistically need on fine tailoring.

The designs included some classic Yamamoto shapes (Slides 1 and 2), in the designer's preferred pallet of black. Helping take its tailoring to the next level, SS19 included front pockets stacked on top of one another across blazers and jackets, with superfluous zips exploding out the front of the chest.

SS19 also saw an introduction of color - bubblegum pink, royal blue and purple - layered underneath formal tailoring for a bold contrast allowing Yamamoto's designs to come to life. Perhaps this collection’s strongest point was the roster of graphic embellishments, including Japanese calligraphy, geishas, floral prints and a portrait of Yamamoto himself with a pair of bunny ears. Bold prints seem to be trending this season, and Yamamoto has chimed in with a radical cheetah print in ice blue over the sleeves of slide 15’s jacket, and in blood red across the billowing loose pants of slide 17.

Check out the looks in the gallery above and sound off in the comments with your thoughts on the collection below.
