Double Tap to Zoom

If we've learned anything from this award season — other than Everything, Everywhere at All Once sweeping with ease — it's that Andrew Garfield is the people's loveable favorite. And the Oscars was a further testament to that.

Arriving on the red carpet for the 2023 Academy Awards, Garfield enjoyed some gassing from Michael B. Jordan, who cheered him on from the sidelines as the cameras snapped his 'fit. We love an endearing bromance.

During Jimmy Kimmel's opening monologue, the talk show host made a joke which unsurprisingly referenced the slap.

He called out audience members who would defend him from another slap-level incident like the Mandolorian (Pedro Pascal) and Adonis Creed (Michael B. Jordan).

When Kimmel mentioned Spider-Man, the camera panned to Andrew Garfield, who issued an awkward grimace and shoulder shrug, prompting the audience to erupt in delayed laughter.

Many believe the crowd reacted as they did because they expected to see Tom Holland, who is, yes, the current Spider-Man. However, Garfield, who played our Amazing Spider-Man, recently reprised his role in Spider-Man: No Way Home alongside Holland and Tobey Macguire (it was a Spider-Verse crossover).

Oscars Producer Molly McNearney revealed each actor was notified about the joke and camera time ahead of the show. It was requested that Garfield do a "Spider-Man web sling gesture" during his moment.

Instead, he gave us something award-worthy: a new viral, relatable meme delivered less than 10 minutes into the award ceremony.

"He made his own choice. Which I think was even better," McNearney stated in an interview. Agreed.

In another clip, Garfield and Florence Pugh — both of which will be starring in the upcoming rom-com WE LIVE IN TIME – presented screenplay wins. Upon exiting the stage, a fan pointed out how he made sure the actress — who wore towering Valentino platforms — held his arm for support. What a gentleman.

Oh, and he shared a sweet embrace with Shawn Mendes during the Vanity Fair after-party. But you get the point: Andrew Garfield is, again, the people's lovable fave.

Judging by these interactions, Garfield reminds me of that one friend you look forward to seeing at a function because it's always a refreshing  time with him.

As much as Garfield supports his fellow entertainers, they're rooting for him right back. And us too! Never change, king.
