Warsteiner Announces Top 10 Finalists for This Year's BLOOOM Award, We Take a Closer Look

The iconic German beer, Warsteiner, has announced the top 10 finalists for its seventh annual BLOOOM Award by Warsteiner art prize for emerging artists from around the world.

Offering possibly the best array of competition prizes for new, upcoming artists, the grand prize includes a full year of mentorship by an internationally renowned art industry expert, along with a trip to the prestigious Art Basel Miami Beach art fair. This follows the unveiling of their work at the BLOOOM exhibit, held as part of Art.Fair | Fair for Modern and Contemporary Art in Cologne, Germany’s third largest art fair.

The 10 finalists convinced the judges out of a total 2,000 applications from across 84 countries. All 10 finalists will have their works shown in front of 36,000 industry professionals, art critics, peers, and the general public during BLOOOM – the special converging art show held as part of the Cologne Art.Fair. The official unveiling will occur on October 26, and displayed publicly from October 27 to 30.

While the first place prize has pretty much guaranteed success and exposure for past winners, including Johanna Flammer, Igor Simic, Samira Elagoz and last year’s winner, Liat Livni, runners-up also benefit from top publicity. Second place winners will enjoy an exclusive exhibition at an internationally renowned gallery and a trip to the Art Paris art fair. Meanwhile, third place winners will receive a one-day intensive mentoring session from an industry expert focusing on their art and career.

The five-member jury panel for the 2016 BLOOOM Award by Warsteiner includes the permanent core team of Catharina Cramer, patron and managing partner of the Warsteiner Group, Yasha Young, director and curator of Berlin’s Urban Nation, and Walter Gehlen, the co-director of Cologne’s Art.Fair and BLOOOM. The two judges for the 2016 prize are Prof. Dr. Stephan Berg, director of the Kunstmuseum Bonn, and German TV presenter, and Grimme award winner Joko Winterscheidt.

The finalists are Tadao Cern, Lithuania; Matthias Danberg, Germany; Femke Huurdeman, The Netherlands; Aaron Li-hill, USA; Martin Reiche, Germany; Marco Sanna, Germany; Liat Segal, Israel; Xanthe Somers, UK; and Rahel Zaugg, Switzerland. Check out their work below.
