Double Tap to Zoom

This week, the art world hit the headlines with images of one of Jeff Koons’ iconic shiny blue dogs shattered on a concrete floor. Preceding this scene, by all accounts, an invitee of the VIP-only opening night of Art Lynwood in Miami had prodded the $42,000 sculpture. Certainly an interesting move for an art collector.

The smashed balloon dog sculpture has, as you might expect, continued to draw attention, with buying interest not dying down as collectors look to own a piece of history.

We get it; the idea of a destroyed piece of art is subversive, it’s provocative and tongue-in-cheek, but instead of dropping five figures on the shattered version, we’ve got our eyes trained on this unsmashable replica by Boyhood.

Made from smoked oak, the Boyhood Ballon D’Og clocks in at just $85. Sure, it doesn’t have the same balloon-like sheen or clout of a real Koons dog, but we’ve seen how that story can end, haven’t we?
