No, Virgil didn’t change luxury fashion by himself. While the Louis Vuitton head honcho has definitely done his fair share in the reshuffling of luxury, he was never alone. Dior and Fendi’s Kim Jones has been right with him, pushing boundaries to democratize the exclusive world, instilling each collection with a modern twist. Whether that’s sneaker collaborations or the fact that he’s worked with a different artist for each of his Dior collections since he joined in 2018. The latest comes in the form of Dior x Peter Doig.

Born in Scotland, Peter Doig now lives in Trinidad. He’s regarded as one of the most famous living figurative painters, with work setting dizzying records at auction. Seems fitting that he’d partner up with one of history’s biggest fashion houses, then.

Kim Jones has become an expert in melding his work with that of the artist, ensuring that subtle nods to Dior act as the foundations while the artist’s work takes center stage. Dior x Peter Doig embodies this approach. Dior’s signature monogram forms the quiet backing texture to Doig’s flowing, camouflage-like style. Mostly using Dior’s silk-cotton Jacquard as the fabric, the capsule has the luxurious sheen yet contemporary embellishment that we associate so heavily with Kim Jones’ reign at the house.
