The Fortnite World Cup is the latest event to be canceled because of the ongoing coronavirus pandemic. Epic Games made the announcement that the tournament will not be held this year, not even online.

Epic Games shared the news with gamers on Twitter yesterday, writing "Due to the limitations of cross-region online competition, there will not be a Fortnite World Cup in 2020." While it's no surprise that an in-person event won't take place, Epic added that the “limitations of cross-region online competition” also made an internet-based tourney impractical.

Given the uncertainty around the pandemic, it's not clear when in-person tournaments might take place again, but the developer said it's "hopeful" it could put on a Fortnite World Cup in 2021.
