With two days before the until the epic, eight-series-long saga that is Game of Thrones draws to a close, it's time to take a moment to reflect on those who started season eight but did not make it to the end.

Throughout the final season, many of the show's characters have perished in various gruesome ways, from having their limbs rearranged by White Walkers and being smashed on a staircase by The Mountain, to beheadings, stabbings, and everything in between.

Lord Ned Umber

Death episode: "Winterfell"

How did he die? He was turned into a wight by the Night King, had his body rearranged into a spiral of severed limbs, and was then finished by Beric and his flaming sword.

Dolorous Edd

Death episode: "The Long Night"

How did he die? Killed by a wight while protecting Samwell Tarly during the Battle of Ice and Fire.

Lyanna Mormont

How did she die? In the Battle of Ice and Fire after triumphantly taking down an undead giant.

Beric Dondarrion

How did he die? He sacrificed himself to save Arya Stark during the Battle of Ice and Fire.

Theon Greyjoy

How did he die? He perishes while defending Bran Stark from the Night King at the climax of the Battle of Ice and Fire.

Ser Jorah Mormont

How did he die? He died protecting his love and queen, Daenerys Targaryen, from white walkers during the Battle of Ice and Fire.

The Night King

Death episode: "The Long Night"

How did he die? Stabbed with a Valyrian steel dagger by Arya Stark in a move so epic it's now a meme.

Melisandre

Death episode: "The Long Night"

How did she die? The red witch removed her necklace and welcomed death after the White Walkers were defeated.

Rhaegal

Death episode: "The Last of the Starks"

How did he die? Shot in the chest with a scorpion bolt by Euron Greyjoy and the Iron Fleet.

Missandei

Death episode: "The Last of the Starks"

How did she die? Beheaded by The Mountain during Cersei Lannister and Daenerys Targaryen's negotiations.

Varys

Death episode: "The Bells"

How did he die? Executed by dragon fire for betraying Daenerys.

Harry Strickland

Death episode: "The Bells"

How did he die? Skewered in the back by Grey Worm as Daenerys' forces storm King's Landing.

Euron Greyjoy

How did he die? Killed in a duel by Jaime Lannister.

Qyburn

How did he die? Smashed down the stairs by The Mountain.

The Hound & The Mountain

How did they die? Sandor Clegane, aka The Hound, threw himself and his brother Gregor, aka The Mountain, from the Red Keep.

How did they die? Perished under rubble while attempting to flee King's Landing.
