Double Tap to Zoom

Each week, we take the time to highlight one of our favorite emerging brands. Last week, we profiled the not so obscure designs of Kendrick Lamar favorite, Heliot Emil, and now we've decided to feature biker-inspired brand Lumières by Kai.

Lumières (which means both light and enlightenment in French) was founded in 2013 by Kai Nguyen, a young designer of Vietnamese descent who draws inspiration from anime and biker culture.

For Kai, Lumières represents the light guiding him through his self-expression in the form of both art and fashion. The aim is to create high-quality garments that embody excellence, luxury, and exclusivity through the collection's price point and original designs. In other words, if you're looking to cop, be ready to part with a few hundred to thousand bucks.

Although Lumières is still in its early phases, it has already attracted the attention of a number of celebrities and tastemakers. Lumières by Kai's 1.0 Cargo pants, in particular, have been doing the rounds, having been spotted on the likes of model Aleali May and rapper Reese Laflare.

Highsnobiety Commerce Content Curator Nigel Minani is a big fan of the brand's SS18 collection, and was also drawn to the multi-pocketed and zippered 1.0 Cargo pants, which remind him of designs from iconic Japanese brand NUMBER (N)INE. He's also drawn to the Dominator Jacket, a leather piece à la Schott NYC that he's dubbed an instant classic.
