Mark Gonzales (Once Again) Gives the Superstar Some Skate Cred
The adidas Superstar has spent decades proving it can be just about anything to anyone. A basketball shoe turned hip-hop icon turned terrace staple, the shell-toed classic has never been particularly precious about where it hangs its hat.
So, naturally, it makes perfect sense that Mark Gonzales got involved.
The Superstar ADV x Gonz takes the familiar silhouette and gives it the skate treatment, without losing what made the original so good. This triple-black version keeps things relatively understated, with a leather upper and extra stitching built for life on and off a board.
Of course, this is a Gonz collaboration, so there’s still a little mischief in the mix. His unmistakable creative touch gives the shoe some personality, even when the colorway is keeping things quiet.
It’s a fitting partnership, really, and one that has been well received time after time. Gonz has spent his career making skateboarding look a little stranger and more interesting, while the Superstar has made a habit of adapting to whatever culture gets hold of it next. Together, they make a classic feel right at home somewhere new. A trick few icons can pull off.
