Your Winter Wheat Delivery Just Landed, Courtesy of Nike
Reimagining an undisputed autumn legend just in time for the colder months, the Swoosh is bringing back a seasonal staple with the Nike Air Force 1 Low Wheat.
The Wheat colorway is arguably one of the most culturally significant in footwear history. Directly inspired by the iconic Timberland 6-Inch Premium boot, a silhouette that defined East Coast hip-hop culture and outdoor workwear uniform throughout the 1990s, the tan palette goes way deeper than the surface.
Nike famously brought this workboot aesthetic onto the Air Force 1 in 2001 with the release of the CO.JP Flax Air Force 1 Mid in Japan, followed by the legendary Low-top iterations that became annual cold-weather requirements. This much-awaited return marks a revival of the fan favorite, arriving right on cue for fall and winter rotations.
This latest iteration sees some subtle changes in design, though, most notably in its elevated material execution. Swapping out standard smooth nubuck, Nike updates the upper with a more tactile suede with a hairy finish.
A full monochrome Wheat flood coats the upper, midsole, and outsole, giving the shoe its signature monolithic aesthetic.
The Nike Air Force 1 Low Wheat is a case study in good colorways, really. The best don’t need to be complex, but it does help if they have a story behind them. This one appeals on pure aesthetics at the most base level, but for those looking one step further, it’s an exercise in cultural referencing and storytelling.
