Editor's Notes: Last year's Netflix documentary, The Last Dance, took us on a journey from playoffs to championships, through to Michael Jordan's final game. It was an emotional rollercoaster that gave the spectacle of his games new life. Generations that grew to love the star through his signature Nike sneakers were afforded an opportunity to learn not only the history behind the legend but the moments that inspired countless colorways.
Although Jordan was, of course, the star of the show, the documentary also shed light on the teammates and coaches that elevated his play. The method behind the madness of it all was Phil Jackson. Nicknamed "Zen Master," Jackson was a practicing Buddhist and brought the teachings of the religion into the game, bringing a balanced approach to the edge of competitive sport.
When this Air Jordan 4 first surfaced towards the end of 2021, it was rumored to borrow Phil Jackson's nickname. With the full reveal of the Spring 2022 Jordan Brand release schedule, the official name of the colorway has been revealed – "Zen Master."
Although there has been a name switch, it is assumed that the silhouette still sees Nike pay tribute to Jordan and Jackson's close friendship and their unforgettable career together. The silhouette appears to be highly conceptual and unlike any Jordan 4 in recent history.
New on-foot shots from @YankeeKicks (which continues to call the pair "Zen Master") give the clearest look yet at the sneaker's upper, which features a serene, galaxy-like finish that is complemented with monochrome accents.
