Black mesh and grey suede do the groundwork. The pink details make this AL8 worth another look.

The Nike AL8 has the look of a shoe discovered in an old running catalog.

In this mostly black and grey version, however, the details are far less shy than the colorway name suggests: pink embroidery traces the Swoosh, and another flash of pink cuts through the chunky sole.

Black mesh, leather, and suede overlays supply the requisite retro-runner layering. The embroidered Swoosh and Waffle outsole do the archival work, while a substantial foam midsole lends it the volume of a modern lifestyle sneaker.

The result is an easy everyday shoe with enough color to stop it from looking anonymous. At $95, the AL8 offers the mesh-and-suede layering and comfortably chunky profile that sneaker people keep coming back to. Nike says the shoe contains at least 20 percent recycled content by weight, too.
