adidas & Pharrell Want You to Walk on Water
There's really nothing Pharrell can't do. Make good music, design cool shoes, and now, walk on water. Well, with adidas, of course.
Pharrell is bringing back adidas' archival aquatic Water Moc V shoe, which first touched land in 2001 as the ultimate multi-purpose shoe.
Designed for days that go from treks by the creek to hikes up the trail, adidas aquatic Watermoc V was created as the ultimate aughts-era utility shoe. 25 years later, Pharrell is bringing the aquatic shoe back from the archives with the Virginia Watermoc "Starfish" shoe.
Woven nylon and ventilated mesh make up the upper that's layered with reflective, web-like details.
Water-resistant neoprene readies the shoe for water-related activities and continues the themes of retrofuturism wafting from the shoe.
Bungee-style laces are hidden by a retro-style cross strap that covers the majority of the upper.
Unlike the OG, this interpretation of the Water Moc comes with embossed "Virginia" branding on the arch, insole and strap overlay.
As of late, adidas has been flexing its sea legs to great avail. Last year, adidas brought back the Water Moc V's cousin, the Water Moc Equipment, a shoe designed for kayaking and one of the Three Stripes' first official forays into the world of water shoe revivals. On the whole, large bodies of water are pretty uncharted territory for footwear inspo, but it's not that hard to see how Pharrell found inspo in this sea shoe.
It's ambitious and amphibious; what more could you ask for?
