Over the last couple of years, awareness of sustainability and repurposing clothing has become more relevant than ever in the fashion industry. While there’s still a long way to go for some fashion brands to become eco-friendly, up-and-coming designers such as Marine Serre and Robyn Lynch base their brands around the ethos of sustainability. The Japanese brand PROLETA RE ART also takes a stand on the movement, though, with eye-watering price tags like this four-figure PROLETA RE ART Denim Jacket.

It's been a bit over two years since PROT — the founder of PROLETA RE ART — founded his brand, as he told Highsnobiety, and its eye-catching pieces have secured a spot in A-list celebrity wardrobes, such as those belonging to A$AP Rocky and Lil Baby. Despite its short journey, the brand has also racked up collaborations with big players in the fashion sphere, such as Gucci and Yohji Yamamoto’s Wildside initiative.

The Japanese brand stands out in part thanks to its boro-stitching technique. Born in Japan, it mainly consists of repairing old textiles through patchwork and stitching. While the brand uses this humble method to craft its pieces, it is PROLETA RE ART’s high-end materials and dedication to craftsmanship that balance out their shocking price tags. This handmade PROLETA RE ART Denim Jacket is made of a printed patchwork with a paisley bandana design throughout the piece. Using the Japanese boro-stitching technique, a unique textured feel is acquired, giving this one-of-a-kind jacket an even more unique look. Maintaining the classic denim jacket construction, gemstone embellishments give this workwear-looking gem an exclusive touch.

Not only is PROLETA RE ART contributing to the sustainability movement in the fashion field, but it's also giving new meaning to utility wear, with elevated, museum-worthy pieces. Utility aside, the name may connote proletariat - but it’s definitely not reflected in the pricing!
