Sony's PlayStation 5 is now available for pre-order registration, but there's a catch. By signing up now, gamers eager to get their paws on the next-generation console might be in with a chance to cop the PS5 minute it's released — but it's not guaranteed.

Per the official announcement, only a limited quantity of consoles will be available. Signing up essentially means that you could be sent an invitation that offers you the chance to pre-order one of the consoles, and the likelihood of that being you depends on a number of caveats.

Firstly, you need to have a PSN account. Secondly, you need to live in the US as Sony will only be shipping in America. Thirdly, your eligibility will be determined based on your "previous interests and PlayStation activities," so if you're looking to bag an early one as a first-time gamer, don't waste your time.

Of course, this is all before we know for sure how much the thing will cost or the specific date the PlayStation 5 will drop. For more on what we do know, head here, and head over to Sony for more deets on how you can sign up.
