The Samba Jane has already put a different spin on the classic Samba, but this version takes things somewhere a little more wild. Specifically, the countryside.

The adidas Samba Jane comes covered in a textured cow print, turning an otherwise familiar silhouette into something with a lot more to moo about.

The black and white pattern is mottled and fuzzy, giving the upper a tactile feel that you don’t usually associate with the classic terrace. It’s a pretty funny way to dress up such a recognizable sneaker, but hey, it’s working.

Then there’s the Jane part. A strap across the foot replaces the usual laces, giving the low-slung silhouette its Mary Jane treatment. It makes the Samba feel a little sweeter, while the cow print pulls it in the opposite direction.

And that contrast is what makes this version work. You’ve still got the Three Stripes and the usual shape, but the textured upper completely changes the moo(d). It takes something you’ve seen countless times and makes it feel a little less obvious. The cow print is obviously doing most of the talking, but the Mary Jane strap keeps it from becoming too novelty-driven.

It’s also the kind of sneaker that doesn’t need much else going on. The black and white upper is easy enough to wear, while the texture gives it enough personality to carry an outfit on its own. You could keep everything else pretty simple and let the sneakers do what they clearly came here to do.

So, no, a cow-print Samba Jane probably wasn’t on your radar. But it should be. There’s something about taking one of the most recognizable sneakers around and giving it a slightly unhinged countryside makeover that makes the whole thing feel surprisingly fresh. Consider this your sign to let a little farmyard energy into the rotation.
