adidas’ Tweed Samba Has Left the Football Terrace for the Country Estate
The Samba has had plenty of lives over the years, but this might be one of its more handsome ones. adidas has given the familiar low-top a decidedly fall-ready treatment, swapping out the usual smooth upper for something a little more textured.
The adidas Samba OG gets dressed up in herringbone tweed, and honestly, it suits the old favorite rather well.
The woven upper gives the sneaker an almost tailoring-adjacent feel without making it look remotely stuffy. Black leather detailing across the Three Stripes and toe box keeps things nicely grounded, while the gum sole makes sure it still looks every inch the Samba.
It’s a small change, but it makes a big difference. The Samba has become so familiar that it takes something like this to make the silhouette feel fresh again. Suddenly, a sneaker you’ve seen about 700 times looks considerably more interesting.
There’s also something about tweed and fall that just works. It’s the sneaker equivalent of putting on your favorite wool coat when the temperature drops, only considerably less sensible.
The Samba has done the minimalist thing. It’s had its fashion moment. Now it’s getting a little more textured and considerably more interesting.
