adidas Made a Psychic Samba, and It’s Got Some Serious Aura
Samba, Samba, Samba. At this point, it’s hard to imagine there’s a colorway adidas hasn’t already dreamed up. And yet, every time without fail, there they are among the German sportswear brand’s new arrivals. A suave new Samba to play with.
This one is extra fun. It’s only gone and cooked up a Pokémon Samba OG.
Drenched in a gorgeously reflective lilac shade, this is a Samba put to work. As good as the first-generation Sambas are, there’s a time and place for a white and black terrace sneaker. This is neither the time nor place. Just look at it!
The whole thing has been given the Pokémon treatment without losing what makes a Samba a Samba. The lilac upper gets paired with contrasting details, while little Pokémon touches give the classic terrace silhouette a proper dose of personality. It’s playful without turning the sneaker into something completely unrecognisable.
And that’s probably the best bit. You don’t need to be a die-hard Pokémon fan to appreciate what’s going on here. The color alone is enough to make this one of the more interesting Sambas adidas has dropped lately, while the familiar shape keeps it from feeling like a novelty sneaker.
For those tuned into the Pokémon of it all, this one is inspired by Mewtwo, channelling its grip, speed and mental power. Its face makes a little appearance on the tongue label, which is about as close as a Samba is going to get to psychic powers, or so I’m told.
