Editor’s Notes: adidas Originals has given the ZX 5000 a jacquard themed spin for 2021’s first installment of its A-ZX series.

The ZX 5000 Vieux Lyon takes its name from the French city of Lyon’s renaissance district, where weaver Joseph Marie Jacquard invented the jacquard loom in the early 19th century. The groundbreaking machine played a part in the technological revolution of the textile industry and the silhouette pays tribute to this story of craftsmanship and innovation.

As you would expect, the sneaker’s upper features a custom, woven Jacquard in two shades – purple and gray. Hits of hot pink and black add a punch of color to the stripes, tongue, and laces. Tying in with the geographical theme, ‘La Marque Aux 3 Bandes’ (‘The Brand with the Three Stripes’ in French) is written on the sock liners.

This release is part of adidas’ A-ZX program, a series of 26 ZX sneakers dropping throughout 2020-21. To see what’s dropped so far and what’s coming next, head here.
