Dedication, skill, and the will to succeed. This is how Sam Kerr defines the reasoning behind her success – and as the all-time leading Australian international scorer in football, we’ll take her word for it.

Kerr has been the point of reference in football from when she stepped onto the pitch at 15 years old, to the time she was the first Australian to score a hat trick at the FIFA World Cup in 2019, up to now, as Chelsea FC's current top scorer.

Throughout her career, the professional footballer has led by example, creating moments that solidify her future legacy in every endeavour.

Her latest project does not stray from her vision. Joining IWC's legendary inner circle, Kerr has been named the newest representative for IWC Schaffhausen, accentuating the brand’s legacy in Chronograph timepieces.

Naturally, this isn’t the first time IWC has attracted greatness into its sphere of influence. Coming off of projects with Lewis Hamilton and George Russell, Kerr joins the select few unforgettable sportspeople to don the iconic chronograph.

The IWC Chronograph collection is an exemplary model of what the brand strives to achieve. Robust, accurate, and versatile (sound familiar?), the style, which was first created 40 years ago, serves as the blueprint for many in watchmaking uncompromising performance with quality.

Featuring three of IWC's distinct models - the Portugeiser Chronograph, the Pilot's Watch Chronograph 41 Top Gun, and the Pilot's Watch 41 - this collaboration comes to life, flexing the watchmaker's history of resilience and style in a new light.

From the IWC Chronograph first serving as an essential cockpit instrument to now being used both on and off the pitch by one of football's undoubtedly greatest players,  Kerr and IWC show the boundless possibilities of what it means to be the best in their craft.

What do you consider to be your most significant achievement so far?

My most significant achievement is probably my recent success with Chelsea. Achieving four titles back-to-back has been a massive thing in my career and on a team level.

Do you have any key learnings or pieces of advice from overcoming obstacles?

Yeah, I've had to overcome many things. Of course, there are the cliches in sports like injuries, but there were also times when I didn't play my best and wasn't getting picked for teams. However, what has helped me and what drives me forward is the will and want to succeed.

I've always been a super competitive person and that's what makes me get back out to training every day. The injuries, not getting selected, being away from home – all those challenges become worth it when you win a trophy at the end of the year and share that achievement with your teammates and best friends.

What keeps you motivated both on and off the pitch?

My friends and family are my inspiration. My motivation is winning -- I love competing, and I'm a winner. The feeling of achieving something is honestly what keeps me going in the sport. My friends and family love to support me along this journey, and therefore it's their journey as well so I do it for them too.

What draws you to IWC, and how do you style your timepiece?

The first thing that draws me to IWC is that it has partnered with some amazing athletes who I have admired my whole career. People like Lewis Hamilton, who have been at the top of their game for so long have collaborated with IWC throughout its history.

I'm drawn to the physicality of the timepieces as well. I want something that brings my outfit together and brings class. A watch can be such a popping part of your outfit, and I love how IWC watches bring my look together with the sporty, yet refined look.

In the world of Chronographs, IWC is dubbed as “the reference”. Who or what moment would you consider as your “reference” in football?

The first person that comes to mind for me is Abby Wambach. While I was growing up as a young footballer, she was always an out-of-reach inspiration to me. When I finally got to meet her, she lived up to all of my expectations and hit home with everything that I believed in, more so off the pitch than on the pitch. It’s inspiring to meet your idol and realize that they are a humble, everyday person. She's someone who I strive to be like now.

Which IWC Chronograph and strap option is your favorite?

I think the Portugieser Chronograph with the burgundy rubber strap is my favourite. The watch just popped on my wrist and looked amazing with every outfit.
