Highsnobiety

There are many style codes around the seasons; symbolic red tape around what you should or shouldn’t wear during a specific season. In general, we say ignore the codes and wear whatever you love and whatever makes you feel good. One style code that we’re leapfrogging this year is that brown is the color for fall.

Well, we’re not really avoiding it, we’re actually just prolonging it. We’ve worn neutrals all the way through the style-coded fall period, and we’re loving them so much we’re extending the season for neutral brown clothing through winter and maybe even spring.

Why are we loving it so much? Well, brown clothing presents the perfect base color. You can take it in a number of different directions: dressing it up with bolder hues is perfectly reasonable, as is continuing the neutral field with creams, whites, and greys. When layering is high on the priorities, brown is a veritable MVP.

To pay homage to the color that’s seen us through fall and looks set to march us through the bleak winter, too, we’ve rounded up some of our favorite brown clothing with the help of Harvey Nichols.
