Double Tap to Zoom

There’s something particularly good about a running shoe that looks like it has absolutely no intention of staying on the track. CARNAN and ASICS clearly agree, with their latest collaboration giving the GEL-CUMULUS 16 a decidedly more fashion-minded makeover.

The Brazilian label and Japanese sportswear giant first linked up in 2024 for the original “Path” project. Two years later, they’re back with “Path II,” swapping silhouettes but keeping the idea of a shared journey at its core.

This time, that journey comes in a rich Blackberry colorway, with green accents and a black base.

The colors aren’t completely arbitrary, either. Purple represents the partnership itself and CARNAN’s creative identity, while green nods to its continued growth. The black base carries over from the first collaboration, giving the second chapter a nice sense of continuity.

As for the shoe itself, it’s a pretty convincing argument for the running sneaker’s life beyond running. The mix of suede and mesh, slightly chunky proportions, and Y2K-leaning shape feels made for loose trousers rather than a treadmill. Which is probably why it works.

Two collaborations in, “Path” is starting to feel less like a one-off project and more like a genuine creative relationship between CARNAN and ASICS, one that seems to be getting better with every step.
