C.P. Company & Manchester City's Goggle Jacket Is an Instant Grail
At Manchester City games next season, it won't just be the terraces that are littered with C.P. Company’s goggle-trimmed jackets — they’ll be worn by the players, too.
C.P. Company is launching a multi-year partnership with the Premier League’s reigning champions, becoming the official Style Fashionwear Partner of Manchester City men's first team.
The Italian label has designed an exclusive capsule collection to be worn by the players, coaching staff, and executive management, when traveling to and arriving at the stadium on away match days in the UEFA Champions League along with several other matches, solidifying the special relationship that C.P. Company has with the English city.
The line includes a customized version of C.P. Company’s Goggle Jacket with co-branded lenses, a style that has become a favorite of football fans ever since it was introduced in the late ‘80s.
“The aesthetic symbolism of the C.P. Company Goggle Jacket has become an icon for football fans, a project where sporting aspiration embraces and keeps its roots alive,” says Lorenzo Osti, President of C.P. Company, in a statement announcing the partnership.
Beyond the goggle jacket, details of the collection are sparse for now, however, the Bologna-based brand does promise that it will offer "elegant and tailored shapes," as well as its fair share of City's signature light blue color. My hope is that there's a C.P. Company turtleneck in the mix, a style that manager Pep Guardiola is often seen wearing on the sidelines.
C.P. Company’s subcultural status among football fans is honored in a video featuring local fans reading a poem written by John Joseph Holt. It opens with Campbell Hatton, Manchester City fan and son of the legendary boxer Ricky Hatton, and the lines: “If you had to pick your first love, then what would it be? King Colin, Phil Foden, or your first piece of C.P.?”
Football fans in the North of England helped C.P. Company become the subcultural icon it is today so for C.P. Company to be outfitting Manchester City’s team is a full-circle moment.
