One thing to know about Dickies: they have fans. When someone gets hooked on this American workwear brand, it becomes an addiction. And it’s easy to see why. Among other attributes, one of Dickies’ key qualities is its consistency—great quality products, great fit, reliable, versatile clothing. At the brand’s pop-up party during Paris Fashion Week, celebrating the release of the new 247 pant, one guest told me he buys every new silhouette that comes out. Serious stuff.

But I’m getting ahead of myself. Our 24 hours spent with the new Dickies 247 work pant (and a disposable camera) begins at Gare du Nord, with one key antagonist—the heat. My Eurostar pulls into Paris to find the city sweating. Walking from Gare du Nord to my hotel, an enthusiastic pharmacy sign kindly lets me know of the temperature: 40 degrees Celsius. Safe to say, it isn’t really the weather for workwear pants.

Nonetheless, we battle on. At the hotel, the 247s are waiting for me. Then it’s a few stops on the metro to the 11th arrondissement; I arrive as the event proper is getting underway. The first welcome sign on my approach is the Dickies branded ice cream stall. No surprise that it’s busy, given that guests flocking from all corners of Paris have spent the day sweating in showrooms and event spaces with zero air conditioning. Thank you, Dickies.

Same with the venue itself: spacious, breezy, cool. And gathered inside it, the great and the good of Paris’ streetwear scene, including skateboarder Lucas Amador, artist Lucas Beaufort, and DJ Shani Bru. Burgers are served in a conservatory-like space towards the venue’s center, music is pumped out by TONAK, and guests unwind from a long day of Fashion.

Unquestionably, the highlight of the evening was an intimate (and raucous) performance given by Prince Waly. My level of French sadly doesn’t stretch to keeping up with the rapper’s lyrics—so yes, I did feel left out in a crowd that didn’t miss a word for the full 45 minutes—but hey, the vibes were immaculate, and in such a small performance space getting involved was obligatory.

This was a gathering that could only take place in Paris, really—an personal affair for friends of the brand; a place to hang out, to chat, to soak up the vibes of a summery Paris Fashion Week in full swing. And at the center of the affair was the 247. As versatile as it is comfortable, this is a pant which delivers on its promise to fit the bill around the clock (well, we recommend you sleep in something else, and wash them occasionally).

I wish I could regale you of my post-event romp around Paris in Dickies’ new silhouette, of a wild night spent in various bars of unknown location or name. Sadly, the truth is less exciting—with a long fashion week ahead, I went to sleep. But it was a long, luscious sleep in the knowledge of a trusty staple’s presence in my hotel wardrobe. Perhaps Dickies have found a new addict.
