Let's be honest, Christopher Nolan's new war epic, Dunkirk, was never in danger of looking anything but utterly stunning, but even the most paid-up Nolan fan must find themselves drooling at some of the set pieces on show in the movie's massive first trailer.
A mysterious, slightly ominous teaser first emerged back in August, and the latest clip expands on that tension with a bevy of aerial and nautical warfare shots reminiscent of past epics such as Saving Private Ryan and Atonement. The plot is centered around soldiers from Belgium, the British Empire, Canada, and France who have been cut off by the German invasion and their attempt at a miraculous invasion, with One Direction heartthrob Harry Styles, Tom Hardy, Cillian Murphy and Kenneth Branagh playing starring roles.
Behind the scenes, Nolan will again link up with Hans Zimmer for the film score, while Interstellar cinematographer Hoyte van Hoytema is again favored over Wally Pfister, who the director had worked with almost exclusively prior to the space epic.
Dunkirk is slated for a July 21 release in 2017. Until, then check out our list of the 10 best movies to release in 2016.
