Reimagining Tennis Classics With FILA
“Tennis is always evolving,” says model and singer Vitor Zakwe, who’s been playing the game since he was a kid. “Its style, gear, playing techniques, and even the lifestyle around it. It blends tradition with innovation, making the sport modern and connected to current trends.”
We’ve joined forces with Vitor and art director and model Vittoria DeCarlo on the set of the new FILA x Highsnobiety “Classics Reimagined” campaign (in which they both feature) in Milan to talk about all things tennis culture. Namely, how the codes are changing and the impact that’s having on fashion today.
While tennis style is still classically coded — preppy, demure, elegant — what the game represents is shifting away from the elitist connections to wealth and status and towards an increasingly even playing field. Or court, if you like.
As tenniscore is now a firm staple in the worlds of fashion and lifestyle, there’s room for individuality and play than ever before. And FILA’s AW25 collection, and our joint “Classics Reimagined” campaign, is a celebration of this. It speaks to a new generation of fans who are reclaiming tennis and experimenting and innovating the sport’s heritage on their own terms. It's also a homage to Italy — to Milan’s vibrant city life and the tranquility of Lake Como.
The collection features tracksuits, sleek polos, and knits, each representing a distinct chapter in FILA’s storied history. The tracksuits speak to its sportswear heritage; polos are a direct nod to its tennis legacy; and the knits are a tribute to the brand’s history. (FILA started as a knitwear manufacturer in 1911). “The collection is a perfect mix of hybrid pieces designed to work both on court and in everyday life,” says Vittoria. “They’re versatile, easy to style, and effortlessly cool.”
Each piece is enhanced by textures, thoughtful details, and a rich color palette inspired by Italian tennis culture and contemporary city life. “It’s modern, comfortable, and authentic,” Vitor adds. “It reflects attitude and style without losing elegance. It’s perfect for anyone who wants to feel good and express their personality, both on and off the court.”
Both Vitor and Vittoria have been playing tennis for years and find that it keeps them grounded while juggling busy careers in the creative industry. Here’s how:
What do you love about tennis? What makes it the right sport for you?
Vitor: I love tennis because it’s always challenging. It takes skill, strategy, and dedication. That mix of effort and personal growth is what makes it the sport for me.
Vittoria: The fact that it’s possible to easily plan a match with a friend, last minute. I love that you can play outdoors.
Tell us about your first tennis memory.
Vittoria: I used to play at summer camps when I was a child. I remember my teacher Luigi and the time spent at the tennis bar after every match, celebrating with gelato.
Tell us about your training schedule: How often do you play? And where?
Vitor: When I’m in São Paulo, I train a lot at the Givaldo Barbosa tennis academy, focusing on technique, endurance, and discipline.
Who’s your favorite player? Why do you find them inspiring?
Vittoria: Jannik Sinner and of course, maestro Luigi! The first is young, full of energy, and talented. The second is in my heart.
Which player has the best personal style and why?
Vitor: I’d say Gaël Monfils, who’s also my favorite player. He has a unique style that stands out both on and off the court. He’s always authentic and full of personality and positive energy.
Vittoria: I wish Zendaya were an actual player in real life. In Guadagnino’s film 'Challengers,' her style is 10+.
What makes tennis style unique?
Vittoria: Comfort and freshness with attitude. When I think of tennis style, my mind goes back to the old days of weekend matches at the country clubs in the 70s and 80s. Elegant and unique.
Vitor: A mix of elegance, discipline, and personal expression. Every player shows their personality through the way they move, dress, and carry themselves on the court.
Does tennis style connect with your everyday, off-court style?
Vitor: Absolutely. Off the court, I like to maintain the same authenticity, presence, and attitude. What I’ve learned from tennis about discipline and attention to detail also influences how I dress and present myself every day.
How does the game inform your daily life? What has it taught you?
Vitor: Tennis has taught me patience, focus, and resilience. It affects my daily life, reminding me that every effort and decision matters not just on the court, but in life.
