Get on the Iridescent Trend With Our Favorite Pieces to Make Your ‘Fits Shimmer
Last year was all about reflective fabrics – a trend that most prominently featured on elevated workwear. Whether it was simply seen in the details or all-over, the trend was adopted by brands such as A-COLD-WALL*, Stone Island, and Junya Watanabe, along with fashion houses such as Maison Margiela and Givenchy. This year, though, brands seem to be taking shiny clothing one step further with apparel and accessories done out in shimmery, holographic fabrics.
You'll more than likely already know about the best example of this trend, coming care of Virgil Abloh's debut SS19 collection for Louis Vuitton. Abloh set a precedent with his eye-catching iridescent keepall, embossed all over with the iconic LV monogram, and the instant sell-out was always going to pave the way for other brands to follow (perhaps all too literally if this recent find is anything to go by).
Most notably, Stone Island's latest Shadow Project goes in on futuristic, holographic fabrics on padded jackets and windbreakers, while Sies Marjan's men's and womenswear collections included a neck-breaking all-over iridescent coat (above), as well as shirts, trench coats, tote bags, and more. Luxury brands such as Maison Margiela and Lanvin have also hopped on the iridescent train, with stand-out accessories including zip pouches and wallets.
As well as designer investment pieces, more affordable buy-ins to this trend come from Topman, who has brought some iridescence to a $130 single-breasted coat, plus a decidedly lower-key shimmer from a classic John Elliott bomber.
