This Melted Leathery Sack is Issey Miyake’s Best Shoe
It’s hard to be surprised by any one piece of footwear these days, especially when your job is literally to look at shoes. Silhouettes that would’ve been shocking or strange even a few years ago — the sneaker-mule, all things split-toed — have become so ubiquitous they're passé.
But then the Issey Miyake x Camper Peu Form came along. The leather slipper is a fresh addition to Camper’s Peu line, elevated by Issey Miyake’s conceptual devotion to testing the limits of fabric.
The result is a shape (or, actually, lack thereof) that feels so wrong it’s right. This is a soft, slouchy handbag for your foot — successfully toeing the line between ridiculous and wearable with its unstructured calfskin leather and grippy rubber sole.
Even compared with the other offerings in this collab, like the Karst Finch and Anna, the Peu Form stands out. The Anna heel is giving Balenciaga sock shoe, while the Finch’s laceless sneaker — sold with a contrasting pair of removable socks — looks like a more colorful take on an Oakley Factory Team Flesh slip-on or Merrell Moab hiker.
Existing in the same lane is fine. Expected, even, given how crowded the sneaker market is. But the Peu Form is in a league of its own here, and somehow still feels completely slept on despite debuting over a year ago.
With the release of Issey Miyake’s Fall/Winter 2026 collection, the strange style returns in both a mule and an ankle-length version (which looks like a melted, abstract take on a boot). Consider this a fresh chance to slip into one of footwear’s few remaining surprise silhouettes.
