Alexander Rotter of Contemporary Art Worldwide explores the enduring power and appeal of the character Popeye as a subject for artists such as Andy Warhol, Roy Lichtenstein and Jeff Koons, whose newly unveiled 2,000-pound, exquisitely colored sculpture presents the cartoon icon as the ultimate American hero. Jeff Koons' Popeye will be on offer during Sotheby's Contemporary Art Evening Auction and is expected to sell for roughly $25 million USD.
