Gustaf Westman’s Mercedes CLA Is the Final Boss of Glamping
Ever seen a pastel pink Mercedes-Benz CLA with a tent on its roof, a fold-out picnic table at the rear? Well, now you have, thanks to Gustaf Westman.
Under the concept “Camping and picnic with friends,” Stockholm native Westman has turned the CLA into a one-of-a-kind art piece that you can be sure will dominate your favorite IG moodboards this summer.
In the world of automotive, few names hold as much cultural weight as Mercedes-Benz. Counting names like Virgil Abloh, A$AP Rocky, Nigo, Proenza Schouler, and more in their roster of collaborators, the brand has proven time and time again that it’s willing to push boundaries.
To honor the launch of the Mercedes-Benz CLA, Mercedes launched the CLA ‘Class of Creators’ program, adding to its list of ambassadors. From Ice Spice to World of Warcraft, the scope of this project is a mind-boggling testament to Mercedes’ legacy of creative innovation. After Ice Spice’s launch of the campaign in April, up steps Swedish designer Gustaf Westman to take the mantle.
Whether you know him by name or not (have you been living under a rock for the last three years?) you will undoubtedly recognize the unique aesthetic of Gustaf Westman. With pumped-up proportions and playful pastel colors, the designer’s projects have cracked the code to social media success, gracing some of the most desired feeds and homes in the world. Until now, that has meant mirrors, plate sets, mugs, and the occasional lemon squeezer. Courtesy of CLA ‘Class of Creators’, Westman’s whimsy now extends to cars, too.
Accompanied by a host of other picnic paraphernalia like the standout hot dog plate—a plate designed with the sole purpose of cradling three barbecued glizzies, AKA the definition of a summer essential—Westman’s project delves into the power of a well-designed machine to facilitate the meaningful social events and adventures in our lives.
Westman’s Mercedes-Benz CLA is the second of five collaborations planned for the arrival of the new Mercedes model with projects from KidSuper, Hot Wheels, and League of Legends still to look forward to.
Stay tuned for more.
