Editor’s Notes:,Nike partnered with animation studio LAIKA to celebrate the release of their latest film, Missing Link, presenting the Missing Link x Nike Air Max Susan, a collaborative take on the Air Max 1. The sneaker first dropped in the United States on April 12, the same day Missing Link landed in theatres. Now, the design will drop in Europe, arriving on the SNEAKRS app on June 11.

The sneaker is designed by none other than Tinker Hatfield, in partnership with former animator and Nike 3D footwear designer Michael Berger, as the two focus on Missing Link protagonist Mr. Link and his plaid suit, created by LAIKA costume designer Deborah Cook.

"The Air Max 1 has always been a really uplifting, happy design," says Hatfield. "When I saw the film, I immediately felt Mr. Link was instantly lovable — he's happy-go-lucky, the type to stop and smell the flowers. So, he's got a certain chill that for me made sense with the silhouette."

“If you look at the way the Air Max 1's already constructed, it led to a vest, jacket, with a coat on top,” Berger said. “I like the asymmetrical color design on the Swooshes. The hairy suede is another nice touch.”

“I love the warmth and the authenticity of his character,” shared Deborah Cook.

The Missing Link x Nike Air Max Susan features a leather-wrapped midsole, cuff links and kurim fur tufts on the tongue, all pointing to Mr. Link's Pacific Northwest roots.
