There’s something deliciously pretentious about Miu Miu releasing a fresh New Balance silhouette at a small vinyl-record-themed pop-up in Japan. That’s not derogatory. In a world choking on piles of AI slop content, a bit of pretension is welcome.

Plus, if there were ever a shoe that feels fit for an event called the Miu Miu Vinyl Club, it’s this elegant ballerina slipper. 

Already half-sold-out for $1,170 on Miu Miu’s webshop, the ballerina sneaker updates the wildly popular Miu Miu x New Balance 530 SL collaboration with an oblong foot opening and a soft brown cinnamon suede or white leather upper.

The flat-soled 530 SL was already one of the biggest hits of the past few years, and this take perfects the silhouette even more; its mix of feminine grace, via the ballet silhouette and sneaker sportiness is quintessential Miu Miu. Admittedly, this ballerina style is the rare example of Miu Miu joining the pack rather than leading it but when you've been out in front this long, you're still top dog.

All respect to Prada, but Miu Miu is Miuccia Prada’s most brainy brand. It's held regular editions of both a Vinyl Club and Literary Club since 2024, and the recent Spring/Summer 2026 took inspiration from Helga Paris’s 1980s photographic book Women at Work. These aren’t just marketing ploys; Miuccia’s background — PhD in political science, radical activism for the Italian Communist Party — informs her work as a designer. 

With this reputation for intellectualism baked into the brand’s DNA, where else but an event inspired by a vinyl collector's living room would fit for Miu Miu to drop its soft-soled new shoe?
