Mr PORTER's New MR P. Collection Is Designed to Last Forever
London-based luxury fashion destination MR PORTER launched its in-house line of clothing and accessories Mr P. in 2017. Like many labels, though, the tumultuous nature of 2020 has led the brand to reconsider how it designs and produces garments.
"Over the past six months, we’ve seen our consumers invest in more quality-made, seasonless pieces," Mr P.'s style director Olie Arnold told us this week. "As we continue to learn from our customers, and while developing a collection that honors luxury manufacturing techniques for the ages, we’ve created a collection that is both rooted in tradition and made for the future, and with longevity in mind."
And that vision for longevity has manifested itself in the brand's Fall/Winter 2020 collection. The result is a range of smart staples made from luxe, high-quality materials that are built to last in every sense of the word.
"From the perfect white T-shirt to a buttery leather jacket, Mr P. was created to serve as the building blocks for a well-dressed man," Olie added. "In essence, it was, and continues to be, our response to how our customers should both fill-in-the-blanks and enhance their existing wardrobes."
As well as explaining the vision behind the MR PORTER in-house line, Olie picked out his favorite pieces from the FW20 range. We matched those with our personal highlights from the line, all of which you can shop below.
Explore the best of the Mr P. FW20 collection below.
Checked Flannel Shirt
What's at first a classic checked shirt becomes a vision-bending statement piece the longer you stare at it. Built from soft cotton flannel, this is ideal for pairing with a rollneck underneath.
Merino Zip-Up Sweater
This merino sweater is the perfect piece for building a superior modular wardrobe with. Wear it over a shirt, under thicker outerwear like denim, or open with a tee.
Leather Chelsea Boots
Olie Arnold: "At MR PORTER, we are big believers in the Chelsea boot. It’s one of those classic pieces that are neither formal nor too casual but can give your look an edge. Think Keith Richards in the '60s. These particular boots were welted in a world-renowned workshop in Northampton, a region known for its shoemaking expertise, so you know you’re investing in quality."
Ribbed Wool Beanie
Mr P.'s knitted wool beanie comes in a range of four color options, but the emerald green one caught our eye. Will contrast nicely with darker winter fits.
Cashmere Scarf
It doesn't get much cozier than cashmere, so our picks from the range had to start here. Like a chameleon against the season's fallen leaves, this neck accessory takes on fall's best shades.
Double-Breasted Cashmere Blazer
Olie Arnold: "Our Mr P. unlined blazers are what I’d consider the pinnacle of a MR PORTER essential. They’re formal enough to wear out but casual enough to wear with a T-shirt. This Fall, we upped the ante and tailored this double-breasted jacket in 100 percent cashmere."
Shearling-Trimmed Jacket
The lumberjack is one of menswear's most enduring looks, and this shearling-trimmed wool jacket will end up being one of your wardrobe's.
Merino Rollneck Sweater
If you haven't got a rollneck sweater in your winter arsenal, then what are you playing at? This layering tool is one of the most versatile around, slim enough t go both under and on top of many other garments.
Camel Hair Coat
Olie Arnold: "There's simply nothing more classic than a camel coat and this one, in my humble opinion, is the ultimate. Tailored in Italy, this coat is made from hand-combed Mongolian camel hair, which is lighter in weight than wool, but six times as insulating. We cut this piece with a slightly looser fit so that you can wear it with a T-shirt or layer it with a sweater or our Mr P. unlined blazer."
Cotton and Cashmere Corduroy Pants
The holy trinity of cotton, cashmere, and corduroy unite for one of the softest pairs of pants we've ever laid eyes on.
