Editor’s Notes: Nike is celebrating the Mexican Day of the Dead holiday, Día de Los Muertos, with a new three-sneaker release incorporating three specific elements of Día de Los Muertos.

Consisting of the Air Force 1 La Calaca, Air Max 95 La Catrina, and Cortez El Altar, the Air Force 1 is decorated with a reflective sugar skulls pattern inspired by La Calaca, which is part of the alters created during the holiday, signifying the journey of life after death. The white on the sneaker then references sugar, while the colors showcase the captivating design details of the traditional offerings.

The Air Max 95 features shapes of the human body throughout the shoe, a nod to La Catrina, a female skeleton figure, indicating a happy afterlife. The sneaker's lace setup represents the ribs, while the sole serves as the spine, and the mesh and suede upper symbolize muscle fibers.

Lastly, the Cortez is tied to the ofrenda, or altar, which incorporates four natural elements of water, air, earth, and fire to guide souls through the afterlife. Here, we see the graphic insoles with confetti representing the air, candles signifying the fire that serves as direction, a ceramic holding food to illustrate earth, and additional details that express water.

You can look forward to Nike's three-sneaker "Day of the Dead" pack releasing in Mexico and the United States on October 25.
