Double Tap to Zoom

Nike’s P-6000 is doing a lot. Like, a lot. Between the denim blue, gold accents and mesh panels, this sneaker sounds like it should be a bit of a fashion crime. And yet, somehow, Nike has pulled it off.

The P-6000 was never going to be a wallflower, with all those early-2000s running shoe proportions and enough layers to keep a sneaker designer busy for weeks. But the denim and gold combo gives this one a little extra personality.

The blue brings that worn-in, jeans-like feel, while the yellow gold adds a flash of bling that has absolutely no business working as well as it does.

It’s a slightly ridiculous combination, honestly. Denim and gold can go very wrong, very quickly. But against the P-6000’s busy, throwback silhouette, it all feels oddly right. There’s just enough going on to keep your eyes wandering without the whole thing descending into complete chaos.

Minimalists probably won’t get it. That’s fine. Not every sneaker needs to be a tasteful exercise in restraint, and this Nike is all the better for refusing to behave.

Gaudy? A little. Tacky? Almost. But somehow, this P-6000 makes a pretty convincing case for the more is more approach.
