What We’re Saying: The uncle boot is making its glorious return!

Since 2009, Nike has put its best military-inspired foot forward with the Nike Special Field Boot (SFB). Over the years, the lightweight and well-cushioned model has emerged in varying styles and builds, gaining a niche cult following in the process. Now the icon is getting its most distinct update yet: the Nike SFB Carbon Mid React.

The boot fuses the best of Nike ACG with Nike Running, which — not too unsurprisingly — works. This successful trail-to-street proposition is perhaps Nike's most convincing case for the sneaker-boot.

The performance-focused shoe boasts Nike React foam throughout the midsole for a cushioning solution that you wouldn't find in traditional military boots. The SFB Carbon Mid also boasts water-resistance capabilities via ballistic mesh and taped seams found across the upper. Pull tabs at the heel deliver functionality that goes hand in hand with the aggressive tread layout underfoot.

Design-wise, Nike streamlines the aggressive ruggedness of the technical features into clean one-tone colorways in either black or "coyote" brown.

While the sneaker has no release date, expect it to hit Nike.com and stores before the end of the month.
