Editor's Notes: The fourth and final installment of Patta and Nike's "The Wave" collection is almost upon us, offering a friendly reminder that waves don't die.

Has the Air Max 1's comeback officially begun? I'd like to think so.

A couple of months ago, our Footwear Editor Fabian Gorsler called it: 2022 will be the year of the Air Max 1, following the dominance of the Dunk Low throughout 2021.

Through Patta and Nike's efforts of the instantly successful "The Wave" collection, the stars have aligned to kickstart what should be a renaissance of love for the sneaker that dominated the Tumblr years and sparked Air Max mania.

Next up in the series – following the orange, blue, and pink pairs – is a metallic silver and black iteration that highlights the timeless simplicity of the silhouette.

For me, this colorway is a reminder of my first ever pair of Air Max 1s back in 2013. The pair featured a "Wolf Grey" midsection, blacked-out mudguard, and white mesh bare, baring several similarities to Patta's latest rendition.

An unsurprising revelation, given Patta's encyclopedic knowledge of the silhouette, as well as the role it played in cementing the AM1s popularity over the years with its own releases.

Part four pairs a black mudguard and midsection with a metallic silver mesh base and a milky off-white midsole. The final release also comes complete with a further slate of apparel, including t-shirts and a track jacket, each playing on the wavey mudguard detail that has made the collaboration such a hit.
