Salomon has just introduced an innovative new running sneaker that can be disassembled and recycled at the end of its lifespan. The European sports brand first unveiled the concept for the Index.01 — as it's called — in 2019, but now, we get our first official look at the shoe in a sleek all-white colorway.

The upper of the Index.01 is made from recycled polyester, while the sole unit is crafted from a thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU) and foam known as INFINIRIDE. As the sneaker is designed specifically for road running, the INFINIRIDE foam enhances shock absorption, and the rockered sole propels the wearer forward.

When you've gotten all the miles you can out of the sneaker, you can return the Index.01 to Salomon by utilizing a free shipping label that will direct it to the nearest collection center. From there, the brand will separate and wash the materials, and then recycle the components for use on future products, including alpine ski boots for 2022.

The debut of Salomon's new recyclable shoe comes as the brand has been having one hell of a year. After a series of standout collaborations and overall innovative releases, Highsnobiety recently recognized Salomon as one of the top brands winning the internet.

Looking to continue the hot streak, Salomon will be releasing the recyclable Index.01 in the spring of 2021. You can learn more about the sneaker by pressing play below and then visiting Salomon.com.
