Nike’s Greasiest Sneaker Is Low-Key Its Greatest
Quiet as it's kept, mechanics are quite the style muse. Boilersuits, name patches, a little well-placed dirt — it's all très chic.
Nike has noticed as such with its all-new sneaker model, the Air Max Goat Low, a collaboration with creative studio brand Taller De Rafa.
For its first collaboration with the Swoosh, the Bronx-bred brand pulled inspiration from its home borough's automotive culture.
Mossy brown leather warms the upper while subtle distressing at the toe and heel mimic the real-life wear and tear you'd see on an actual work boot, just without having to get up under any hoods or touch a real tire. Good looks, Nike.
Elsewhere, the Air Max Goat Low sports work boot-style hexagonal eyelets and heavy-duty work boot laces, all of which the Swoosh rests on top of a blue outsole.
Perforated "TDA" branding takes up the majority of the upper, while a small metallic Swoosh near the rear rounds out the shoe's rugged simplicity. In a sense, the Air Max Goat is the unofficial poster child for work-boot sneaker hybrids that are sturdy enough for the worksite but much too fly to be used for any real labor.
Even though car culture is a big part of this sneaker's story, its existence is quite fortuitous for those residing in walkable cities. Mechanic-style drip without having to know what an alternator is or does? Why yes, thank you.
