Supreme x Vaquera was definitely not on our bingo card, but we’ll take it. The two brands share a lot in common: an NYC pedigree both in terms of headquarter location and, a scrappy, street-level approach to skating and high fashion, respectively. It makes so much sense that we didn’t even think to dream it up.

The limited edition capsule, available this Thursday in the US and across Asia on Saturday, reads like Vaquera’s greatest provocations, but streetwear. Specifically the tromp l’œil lingerie bra tee — the brand’s iconic tongue-in-cheek underwear-as-outerwear T-shirt — with the addition of a tiny box logo on the nape of the neck.

Another interesting point is the lip print motif that clearly references the Margiela “Kiss” shirt from AW26, which is very Vaquera in terms of provocation by way of referencing the greats. There’s also a Supreme first in the mix: a bedding set in this collage-y notebook print that looks as though it was Xeroxed from an ’80s punk zine.

Supreme is no stranger to designer collabs — from MM6 Margiela and Junya Watanabe to Tiffany and Co. and, of course, the Louis Vuitton collaboration heard around the world — which is what makes a Vaquera capsule all the more interesting. We don’t just love Supreme for its streetwear iconoclasm but for its eye for the new and next.

And Vaquera has been on the up recently, having been inaugurated into the Dover Street Market Paris fold in 2020 via Comme des Garçons CEO Adrian Joffe — and this was just two years before hopping to the Paris Fashion Week calendar following the brand’s strong presence in New York.

Overall, the collab reads, in fashion, like streetwear-son-edgy-daughter in the vernacular of the gay-son-thot-daughter meme. It’s perhaps best encapsulated materially by one styling choice in the campaign imagery: Supreme box logo stickers wrapped around red stilettos. The following collection is just an extension of that, in T-shirt and hoodie form. More streetwear-fashion collaborations in this vein, please!
