The World’s Most Comfortable Sandal Is Now a Winter Boot
German-made Birkenstock sandals offer unparalleled comfort during leisurely strolls, whether in the city or out in nature. It’s not just the bare-bones, cushioned design that makes them so snug. It’s also the fact that they’re built for the rigors of a country that absolutely loves walking.
It should come as no surprise then that for when winter arrives, the German footwear pioneer has fitting options to hit those long, restorative hikes in. And yet, somehow, it does, in the shape of its Jackson boot.
To weather the weather and roam across all terrains, the Jackson is made from soft oiled nubuck, smooth leather, and water-resistant suede, plus a rubber sole added for solid grip. Despite its rough trail-ready build, it still offers that unmistakably smooth Birkenstock walking experience.
It all comes down to the footbed, as Highsnobiety learned first-hand during a visit to Birkenstock’s German facilities earlier this year. In the brand’s signature sandals and clogs, the cork footbed gradually molds to one’s foot, creating a bespoke feel few shoes can match.
As for the Jackson boot, a similar technology, known as the Deep Blue footbed, was employed, ensuring optimal foot posture and cushiony steps even on steeper paths.
Retailing on Birkenstock’s website for $220, the Jackson boot is available in three colorways: black, taupe beige, and faded purple.
By no means was Birkenstock the first brand to come to mind for outdoorsy winter footwear. From now on though, maybe it should.
