Setting your body temperature right in winter isn't easy. Pile on the outerwear and you risk looking like a Balenciaga model who took a wrong turn off the runway and ended up sweating profusely on the subway. However, go too light on the layers and you'll end up chilled in all the wrong ways. The solution? Smart pieces that don't interfere with the rest of your fit. Its name? Uniqlo Heattech.

Launched in 2003, Uniqlo Heattech is a fabric and technology made from bio-warming material that takes your body moisture and turns it into heat. Featured in a range of Uniqlo garments, Heattech's mesh construction traps the air it generates for insulation and keeps you warm when the weather isn't.

Though it's tough when it comes to the technical stuff, Heattech pieces are made ultra-soft via an argan oil infusion. The knitted fabric also stretches with your movements, resulting in clothing that doesn't weigh you down. Heattech pieces are thin and lightweight enough to act as a second skin, sitting under denim jeans, shirts, sweaters, or whatever you choose to throw on top of them.

Below, we've picked out a range of Uniqlo Heattech tops and pants that make both ideal layering tools and one-off items to add to your winter wardrobe. Better yet? They're pretty damn affordable, starting at just $15.

Uniqlo Heattech isn't all about the hidden pieces, though. As well as long-johns, Heattech is also featured in a range of Uniqlo pants that are tough enough to face the cold alone. These include the cargo-style pair below and even some smart houndstooth trousers for the more formal cold-weather occasion.
